Putting an end to the much prolonged debate about movie ticket prices, the Tamil Nadu Government has issued the order to hike ticket prices from INR 120 to INR 150 { this excludes 28 percent GST}. This means bigger multiplexes will charge nearly INR 200 for a movie ticket.
The order was passed after the Tamil Film Producers Council and exhibitors decided to protest the Local Body Entertainment Tax at 10 percent by not releasing around seven new movies last Friday. So this tax along with GST means movie goers need to shell out more.
The decision to revise movie ticket fares comes after a High Level Committee Meeting that consisted of officials from the government, the Tamil Film Chamber of Commerce, and the Tamil Film Producers’ Council. The meeting was held to represent the difficulties faced by the industry and the expenses involved in running theatres.
