Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017)

Based on Operation Bawaria undertaken by the Tamil Nadu police through the 1990s and 2000s, this Karthi starrer is gripping and stands out in the way Tamil movies normally depict cops. Actor Karthi's performance as the lead cop is in line with his usual smirks and punchy dialogues, making you root for him as he and his team as they strive hard to take down a group of dacoits.

Sila Samayangalil (2018)

Priyadarshan’s Sila Samayangalil is set in a hospital, narrating tales of love and longing of a group of people waiting for their HIV test results. Through Prakash Raj’s character of a middle-aged man gazing at others in the room, the filmmaker beautifully brings out the stigma that’s associated with the disease.
