Act It Out With These Top Theatre Academies in Chennai

The South Indian Film Institute offers a range of courses for all-round development in theatre and cinema. With courses ranging from  INR 6000 to INR 50,000, you can choose from various areas of expertise like acting, cinematography, script and screenplay writing or more.

This institute is for all those tiny-tots with budding talent in performing arts. The Alchemy Kids Theatre provides certified training to kids between the ages of 8 to 19 years. They also conduct summer camps and workshops at schools.

Founded by well-known acting trainer Regin Rose, this institute conducts basic and advance courses for 3 months each, from Monday to Friday for 3 hrs. They also have the option of taking the weekend classes for 4 months. The basic course costs INR 30,000 and the advance course costs INR 40000. Hurry and register yourself because the Chennai Theatre Academy only accepts 15 seats.

Another training center for young artists, the Masquerade Youth Center accepts actors between the ages of 13 to 19 yrs. Started in 2009, the academy’s focuses on promoting theatre among teens. They also conduct workshops every 3 months.

This institute offers professional certified courses in acting. The basic course lasts for 3 months and costs INR 60,000. The advance course is for 6 months and costs around INR 80000. The academy continues to train new recruits for a year, free of cost, once they complete their 6-month advance training. Both courses end with a 15-minute exam in which the student is asked to perform a piece. 

Located in T.Nagar, this institute is by far the cheapest and most exclusive. Classes are conducted every Sunday and the course lasts for 8 Weeks. Only 6 students are accepted by the academy and the fee is just INR 15,000.
