Yes! You read that right. The Puducherry Government has withdrawn the need for an e-pass for interstate and intrastate travels. This is in accordance with the directives issued by the Ministry Of Home Affairs (MHA) according to this United News Of India report. This means you no longer need approval or permission to travel to and from Pondicherry.

The union territory had first introduced the e-pass system on March 31 in wake of the rising coronavirus cases in the country. However, this India.com report highlights that people entering Puducherry from other states still need to enrol themselves with the nearest Primary Health Centres (PHCs) of the locality where they are residing.

Since June, many tourist spots have been open to the public including Paradise Beach, Chunnambar Boat House and Sri Aurobindo Ashram with a few hotels welcoming guests. Restaurants have also been open for takeaways till 9 pm and retail liquor stores have been functioning till 7 pm.

As of August 31, Pondicherry's case tally stands at 13, 556.

LBB Tip: Check with the local restaurant/store about their timings before heading there. As always, wear a mask at all times when outside and follow social distancing norms.
