Are you DIYing to make your own noodle bowl? Wai Wai City has finally opened up in the city for you to indulge in some comfort food. And yes, Wai Wai noodles play a big role in the menu.

Wai Though?

Wai Wai Noodles needs no introduction to all you 90’s kids who were die-hard fans of this brand of instant noodles back in the day. We Chennaites now have our very own noodle bar from Wai Wai noodles called Wai Wai City in Velachery. From signature noodle bowls to DIY noodle bowls, Wai Wai City offers yummy comfort food. Their Chicken Momosa is an in-house specialty that is a samosa stuffed with juicy momo filling and is served with chilli garlic sauce and garlic mayo. We tried the Wai Wai Bhel, which was made out of fried Wai Wai noodles and a chatpata sauce that was topped off with onion, tomato and coriander leaves. They also have Chilly Cheese Wontons that comes loaded with mozzarella cheese! Unfortunately {for you non-vegetarians}, they have only two meaty appetisers among the six that’s on the menu.

Pick Your Noodle

The main course includes their Signature Noodle Selection that has seven kinds ranging from soupy noodles to dry ones, hot and spicy to mild ones too. We opted for the China Chili, roasted dry noodles with hot garlic sauce and we weren’t disappointed at all. They also have a DIY noodle bowl option where you can make your own. You start by choosing your base — they have Classic, Roasted, Pan Fried and Chopsuey options.

We chose the Classic noodles and then added our sauce in. You get to pick from Soy Garlic, Masala Fusion, Spicy Teriyaki, Kung Pao etc., and Schezwan Chilly was the one we opted for. You then go on to choose six veggies from the 17 that are listed and we picked bok choy, zucchini, onions, cauliflower, mixed chillies and capsicum and then picked out our three toppings – crispy garlic, green onions and coriander from among other options like crispy garlic, chilli flakes etc. The last step is to choose your protein and they have paneer, egg, crispy chicken, sliced chicken {our pick} and  shrimp for you to choose from and voila! Your very own noodle bowl is ready.

Back To Cool

They have some really interesting coolers like Tamarind Twist, Spicy Mango and Nimbu Masala Soda. The Tamarind Cooler had just the right combination of flavours ranging from sweet to salty with a tangy zest of tamarind. Overall, we had a great experience at Wai Wai City and would recommend it to all noodle lovers. From Sunday, October 1, they also plan on adding rice varieties to the menu so make sure you don’t miss out!
