Chennai is always bustling with some noise and fun, but sometimes you might need a break and want some peace, preferably in the company of nature. Don’t worry though, you can head to these waterfalls near the city to enjoy the sound of the water falling, and an adventurous nature trek to get there. Just a couple hours' drive from the city, these places are perfect for exploring nature's bounty aka waterfalls!

Nagalapuram, Tirupathi

A gem hidden behind the lush green forests of Tirupathi is a serene place named Nagalapuram. Also known as Nagala Hills, this place is famous among adventurous sports enthusiasts. Nagalpuram is also known for the Nagalpuram Falls. A group of 3 waterfalls that flow into a natural pool, it is reached through a great trek surrounded by forests.

Kailasakona, Chittoor

This small waterfall in the valley of the Nagari Hills starts from a split in a rock, outpouring from a height of 40 feet. Also known as the Kone Falls, you can take a refreshing dive here as the water is pristine and clear. The water is also touted to have medicinal properties that heal any ailment. Near the falls is a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati, making this place a point of religious importance as well.

Tada, Chittoor

Tada Falls, also called Ubbalamadugu Falls is located in the dense forest of Siddulaiah Kona and surrounded by the Kambakam Hills. The water falls from a 330 feet height creating a beautiful scene against rocks. You will have to trek 10km to get to the waterfall. The Siddulaiah Shiva Temple and Pulicat Lake are also located near the falls.

Amirthi Zoological Waterfalls, Vellore

If you are at the Amirthi Zoological Park in Vellore, just in the vicinity is this waterfall. The Amirthi forest and Javathu Mountains surround the area. It just takes a 1.5km trek to the falls, and you can get a view of the water falling and ending at a natural pool.

Chakra Teertham, Tirupathi

This waterfall has high religious importance. It is believed to be the place where the Hindu Lord Brahma performed penance which was later cleansed by Lord Vishnu with his Sudarshan Chakra. The place where his Chakra fell is known as Chakra Teertham, hence the name. The water is said to have healing powers and is believed by the locals to absolve you of your sins.

Talakona, Tirupathi

Falling from a height of 270 feet, this waterfall is considered to be the highest in Andra Pradesh. It is located in the Venkateshwara National Park, so you can not only get a view of the falls but of a variety of flora and fauna as well. It is a great place to visit with friends or family, for a long weekend getaway. Another place to check out nearby is the Lord Siddheswara Swamy Temple.

Kaigal, Chittoor

Dumukuralla Waterfalls (known locally) can be found in the middle of the Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary. There is a Shivalinga sculpture near the falls which is somewhat of a major attraction, especially for devotees during the Shivaratri Festival. You will probably have to walk through dense forests to reach the falls, but makes for a great adventurous trek.
