The new Sunday brunch at Watson’s involves unlimited liquor and a seafood-heavy spread.

A Fishy Business

The Sunday brunch at Watson’s is your chance to experience the culinary side of this popular watering hole, originally from Bangalore. The up and coming Bangalorean pub in Chennai is fast becoming a popular spot for the city’s nocturnal youth, thanks to its amazing space and great vibe. However the partying doesn’t give us a chance to sit down for a proper meal, which is a shame because their food is pretty good {check out our feature on them here}.

The Sunday brunch was their answer. The spread isn’t large by any means but the food that they do serve is top notch. The seafood section was our favourite, with a choice of mussels, clams, oysters, salmon rolls, crabs, giant prawns and fish skewers! There’s cold cuts like ham and salami too, but they weren’t all that amazing. The buffet also features a live grill counter where you’re given a choice of vegetarian and non-vegetarian starters to fire up. We particularly liked that they had rarer meats like rabbit {it was yum!} On the vegetarian side, the marinated paneer was super soft and the mixed vegetables added the much needed crunch to each bite.  Apart from meat and veggies, there’s a live pasta and dosa counter, along with their accoutrements in the form of curries and sauces. We opted for a pesto sauce on penne with prawns, which turned out to be a good choice.

Extended Meal

Lest we forget, the dessert section has a range of sweet treats in the form of cheesecakes, lemon cakes, puddings, ice creams and good old chocolate cake {which was our favourite}. The drinks side of the brunch offer gives you an unlimited of supply beers, gins, wines and whiskeys. Ballantine’s, Beefeater and Corona’s can be had throughout the meal, though be sure to check with them prior to the meal as to which brands are available on that particular day. We love the idea of a long boozy lunch and the only thing we wish was different is the price tag. The meal starts at INR 2300 {plus tax}, and is on the pricy side of the Chennai Sunday brunching scene. But with unlimited alcohol and really good quality seafood selection, we are going for this when we are in  a mood for splurging for a celebration.

Price: INR 2,300 plus tax
