Ladies, This Beginner's Month-Long Ultimate Frisbee Class Is For You

Wonder Women Ultimate Frisbee is a month-long women’s only ultimate Frisbee class that starts off this Sunday in Tiki Taka, T Nagar.  The aim of Sunday’s event is to bring the exciting sport of Ultimate Frisbee to women and girls around Chennai, and raise funds for Chennai’s own professional Ultimate Frisbee team, Stall 7. Ultimate Frisbee for those of you not in the know, is a mix of football’s running and basketball’s jumping that is a non-contact sport and played mixed gender even at the highest levels.

Conducting this clinic is Chennai’s own, Stall 7. A top ranked team nationally, Stall 7 is a team comprising talented young men and women who are passionate about the sport they play and have had represented India at the world Ultimate stage numerous times. The session will take you from warm up to cool down and walk you through the basics of the sport; expect a lot of running, jumping, catching and throwing. Just be sure to wear workout clothes and shoes, and bring water and a snack along. The first event is like taster session, you can attend for free and if you like what you see you can pay to sign up for future sessions. On the first session you’ll be introduced to a frisbee, shown the basics of throwing and catching (backhand, forehand) and given a taste of what the actual sport is like, at Tiki Taka, T Nagar, the turf football ground,

Calling all women, ultimate is a great sport to play. Apart from the fact that the sport itself is amazing fun to play, the community that surrounds this non-contact, self-refereed sport is one of respect, warmth and inclusiveness. So not only will you have fun playing, but you’ll also meet a great group of driven and passionate women and men.

The reasons it’s a women’s only clinic is because ultimate frisbee in India is a mixed gender sport, so that means there has to be almost as many women as men on the field (four men and three women, in regulation play). So in an attempt to grow female participation in Chennai and raise funds for their tournament travel, Stall 7 has come up with this event.

Ultimate Frisbee is a fun sport to play, there’s adrenaline pumping plays, calm chess like maneuvers, and plenty of cool and mesmerizing ways to make a disc fly. The sport is great for beginners because of how simple yet beautiful throwing and catching a disc is, and with its rapid growth, there’s new avenues for fun and recreational play in Chennai. So don’t worry about whether you’re good enough, or whether you’ve played a sport before, give this event a shot and we can guarantee that you’ll have fun.
