We love Alwarpet for it’s bustling streets and amazing line-up of quaint cafes. And guess what? We found places where you don’t need to break the bank. Here’s our list of cafes in Alwarpet where you can hang out with your squad, tuck into good food and have a great time, all under INR 500. Trust us on this.

Amelie’s

This quaint new café is worth the visit for the décor alone, but the food is absolutely divine as well! Known for its homemade ice creams, you can get a cup with two scoops {INR 99} of the same flavour or any other two flavours after you’ve tasted every single one, of course.

And for those wanting to know what flavours Amelie’s offers, check this out – Planet {a combination of Mars, Galaxy and vanilla ice cream}, Amelie’s Kat {it has Kit Kat in it!}, Chilli Popcorn Ice Cream, and Goat Cheese and Blueberry Ice Cream to name a few. They serve mostly Continental cuisine with breakfast options, sandwiches and pastas, but you have to try the Minced Thai Chicken Bao {INR 128} for something truly different and the Peanut Butter Chicken Skewers {INR 148} for a different take on the satay. Or how about the flatbread? Think of it like pizza, but not exactly. They have a French Bread {INR 128} for vegetarians and non-vegetarians can sample the Salami Supreme too {INR 188}.

The Chocolate Heaven

A meal made up of just chocolate? Sign us up. The Chocolate Heaven has non-chocolate dishes, but why bother when you obviously came for the chocolate! How about starting off with a Brownie Hot Chocolate {INR 120} with delicious chunks of brownie with every sip?

And then maybe the classic Belgian Chocolate Waffle {INR 220} for a dose of something more. And if the chocolate is too much for you after all of this, a plate of French Fries with Cheese {INR 180} will do just the trick.

The English Tearoom

Inspired by the tearooms in England and filled with charm, this café is a great place to sit back and relax. The ambience is perfect and the food is too!

Obviously you can have tea to start with and it’s served by the pot {INR 170} or if you’re looking for something cold, how about the Ice Cold Rose Milk with Chia Seeds {INR 170}. They also have a full English Breakfast {INR 400} that comes with fresh orange juice, tea/coffee, eggs, bacon, toast, mushrooms and the works! Just share this big breakfast with your buddy. And if you’re just there for tea and dessert, indulge in the Crepes {INR 270} served with bananas, berries, Nutella, caramel and ice cream.

Soul Garden Bistro

Vegetarian food has never looked or tasted so good. And the fusion cuisine at Soul Garden caters to everybody really. The Zucchini Chips {INR 180} are an absolute treat, as is the Crumb Fried Paneer Burger {INR 295}. Or you can enjoy the Aloo Bhujia Maggi {INR 160}, which is perfect for this weather, and a Tomato & Basil Sandwich {INR 295} to go with it.

There’s also the option of getting the Maggi and then indulging in the delicious ice cream creations {INR 250 -300} at 196 Degrees Below. Have a well-rounded meal!

Old Madras Baking Company

You’re probably thinking that this doesn’t fit in with this list, but you’d be surprised at what you can get for INR 500 at this bakery. They specialise in baked goods and freshly made loaves of bread, but they also have sandwiches and salads that you can enjoy. And all of it is delicious and made the day they are sold and totally worth every rupee. Treat yourself to a Grilled Chicken Melt sandwich {INR 275} – and you can choose what bread you want too – a Cappucino {INR 80} and round it all off with a Nutella Brioche {INR 50}. It’s the perfect meal for a busy day.
