A quaint old establishment in Fort Kochi, Jew Town boasts of its multicultural lineage - Dutch, Portuguese, and British. It's not uncommon to find their strong remnants in architecture all around this coastal city in Kerala, God's own country. But what caught our attention was the amazing line of cafés {Must try: Kashi Art Cafe, Mocha, Pepper House Cafe} and of course, the Jew Town street bursting at seams with antique stores.
Each store had an abundance of handcrafted decor artefacts, right from wooden carved plaques to brass and bronze idols, bells, wall hangings to the very typical miniature {and mammoth} version of the iconic Kerala rowing boats and locking systems.
Being a hardcore decor enthusiast, I was looking for unique pieces for my home, pieces which would remind me of this beautiful trip to Kochi. Hence, I narrowed down to these absolutely vividly hand-painted cow heads and a bright red Nettur Petti or Malabar Box {Crafted originally in rosewood, and used by women of the royalty or the temple priests to store precious jewels}.
The Cow heads have been styled on the wall at varying heights to draw the eye, whereas the Malabar Box which has intricately carved bronze embellishments has been placed in my entryway foyer on the console. It makes for a great conversation starter.
