What Makes It Awesome

Idlies, a small eatery in Ashok Nagar, will speak to the heart of every Chennaiite. Their mainstay is traditional Tamil cooking made the same way your mother makes it. Soft tawa toasted podi idlies wrapped in banana leaves are their trademark pick up and go item, and we absolutely love them.

The 10-seater retro-esque diner embraces the traditional vibe with its wooden stools, chairs and tables. They even use copper tumblers and serve thayir sadham and sambhar sadham for INR 70. Idlies' menu has other timeless classics too like seppangkezhangu (taro root) fries (INR 60), butter onion podi dosais that come with their house special chutney and vethakozhambu sadham (served with curry of the day and vadam).

Their podis are simply too good, and you can even pick packets of them here. Freshly ground elllu podi, paruppu podi, thengai milagai podi are all on offer. Idlies also serves panagam, buttermilk and somasi (more like samosas) if you're up for a quick snack. We’ve all grown up eating these foods and a place like this offers them for reasonable prices, making us love this place even more. They are open for breakfast and lunch till 3 pm and then reopen at 5 pm for snacks and dinner.
