Mylapore has to be easily one of the top five favourite localities for Chennaiites. Be it the busy streets, the colourful street vendors or the beautiful temples or the delish food that it offers, there is something about this place. In this story, we will be going through such iconic restaurants and street food joints in Mylapore. Enjoy!

Mami Tiffen Stall

Started by a son and mother duo, where the latter was called 'maami' by the localiltes, this mess was started as a tiny joint near the legendary Kapaleeshwarar temple. From there, it has grown into one of the most popular eateries of Mylapore where hundreds of people walk in to have a hearty meal. They serve all three courses of meals every day and we  LOVEE their podi dosa and sambhar. They even have an air-conditioned room for dining in now and are only becoming better every other day.

Hotel Saravana Bhavan

This legendary restaurant chain that runs across the world needs no introduction. This has been a goto place for South Indian food for over thirty years now. Their outlet in Mylapore is a very spacious one and serves one of the best lunch thalis in the city.

Namma Veedu Vasanta Bhavan

Nothing matches the masala dosa and sambhar combination from this restaurant. Another legendary restaurant in the city, this place serves proper South Indian food. The ambience of the outlet in Mylapore is quite better than the rest in the city and is spacious too.

Adyar Ananda Bhavan

Adyar Ananda Bhavan is yet another iconic restaurant that serves both south Indian and north Indian cuisine. Their gobi manchurian is to die for. This is one of the more expensive restaurants on this list. Fully air-conditioned, they are popular for their huge variety of sweets and savouries.

Nila Choru

Right opposite Adyar Ananda Bhavan, this small food joint, although very new when compared with the other ones in the list, is growing to become one of the iconic eateries of Mylapore. Present in Mylapore and Mandaveli only, this is a small joint which serves budget south Indian food. Their tiffin options are drool-worthy and we have personally tried their rava dosa and just thinking about it kicks in a huge craving.

Jannal Kadai

If you are a resident of Mylapore or if you have any friends from Mylapore, there is no way you wouldn't know about this iconic yet makeshift food joint that is located few buildings from Kapaleeshwarar temple. No fancy menu, no place to sit. Just authentic and soul-satisfying food. The owner serves food through the window of his house and this place is really famous for their bajjis and they only cost INR per plate of 4 bajjis.

Bharathi Mess

Yet another budget food eatery, Bharathi Mess is much suited for takeaways. We tried their chapathi and tomato thokku and been raving about it since then. The cafe's theme revolves around the late Tamil poet Bharathiyar and has photos of him hanged inside.

Mylai Karpagambal Mess

Mylai Karpagambal Mess has been here since 1953. This place screams legendary. With walls adorned with Hindu gods and goddesses, this place has authentic south Indian food, the best sellers amongst them being keerai (spinach) vadai, podi dosa and filter coffee.

Kaidi Kitchen

Another vegetarian restaurant near Savera Hotel, Kaidi Kitchen is a prison-themed, vegetarian restaurant. They are a multi-cuisine outlet serving north Indian, Italian, Chinese, Thai and Mexican cuisines. They are a bit pricey but the experience is totally worth it.
