In the Guindy National Park is India’s first reptile park — The Chennai Snake Park which will both educate and captivate you. Established in 1972 by herpetologist Romulus Whitaker, this place was initially a non-profit organization, and since its inception, it has been committed to creating public understanding and appreciation of reptiles and amphibians.

The park has all kinds of reptiles, snakes, crocodiles, tortoises, turtles and lizards, which makes its collection of fauna a rich one. Engaging and educating the public is their main activity, which they achieve by providing interesting exhibits as well as informative programs.

Learn about the behaviour, habitat, and importance of reptiles in the ecosystem through interactive displays, additionally, it is a hub for research and conservation efforts. The park actively supports captive breeding programs for endangered species and publishes scientific journals to disseminate knowledge about reptiles and amphibians.

The park also has a Digital Infotainment Center, which is a special place for visitors to learn about snakes. It uses screens to show information in both English and Tamil. Additionally, the park features a museum showcasing preserved specimens, and a library stocked with literature on reptilian biology.

If you want to witness something cool, the park occasionally has demonstrations of venom extraction, highlighting the importance of a snake's part in medical research and antivenom production. But if you really don’t feel like doing much you can just walk through the peaceful pathways amidst the nature.
