None accessorise as well as we Indians do, right ladies? Especially in the earrings department and no matter if we have those trendy pieces or not, what we all certainly own is a pair of jhumkas. These unique, ageless beauties are ours and rooted in tradition but on a more relatable level, they just cannot be worn everyday. No we're not saying they're only limited to Indian attire, you can wear them on anything. It's the weight that annoys us. Luckily, there's a 17-year-old wonderworker online who handmakes jhumkas out of paper to keep us looking fly everyday.
Tanushree began The Jhumkaverse as a hobby after taking a class on paper jewellery-making in the seventh grade. During the lockdown, she revisited this and decided to set up an online store. The entire bell or jhumka is made of paper she shares, this makes the earrings considerably lighter than regular jhumkas. These are then embellished with rhinestones and pearls. There are 20 different colours available and three designs; fish hook, studs and hoops. They are entirely customisable too. You can pick a specific colour that can be hand-painted, also pick the size and design and the add ons.
Something else that Tanushree has been dabbling in and recently launched are nose pins, ones that look like what Mastani wore in Bajirao Mastani (to help paint a mental picture). These can be customised with beads, pearls or stones too.
