There's nothing quite like buying coffee online and getting that perfect cup. Brewed in many ways, different coffee apparatus actually require different coffee grind requirements. If you've bought a Moka Pot, and are wondering how to get the best brew from it, remember it's one of the quickest ways to brew coffee. Brewing upwards with boiling water, Moka pot brews are high in caffeine, and concentrated flavour, because it has been designed to do just that (perfect for first-coffee-of-the-day brews!). Ideally, the grind of your coffee should be between coarse and espresso fine for max flavour and minimal bitterness; any flavour and blend works. Now we’re not going to get behind the science, but we will tell you what coffee you should be buying to brew in a moka pot.
Have A Moka Pot? Homegrown Blends & Coffee Beans For The Perfect Brew
Coffee First
With a Moka Pot, the grind size is paramount in getting the perfect balance of flavours. Coffee First has two blends - Svara (Indian) and Armonia (Indo-Columbian). The former has a balanced flavour with notes of cocoa and toasted nuts, and is mildly sweet, and the latter is stronger with a berry after taste. Based out of Bangalore, you can choose to order the beans and grind it yourself, or ask them for a custom grind for the Moka Pot on their Hey Cafe 880 Grinder and send it across.
KC Roasters
These guys take their coffee seriously, as the Mumbai based brand’s offerings include specialty beans, blends, and even grinds. We LOVE the Rum & Raisins blend (medium roast) that’s aged in an Amrut Whiskey Cask! The bold flavour profile makes it perfect to be brewed in a Moka Pot. If you head to LBB Shop to order, you get the option to buy all roasts and blends in 13 custom grinds (including whole bean if you’d rather grind it yourself), so if you’ve no idea of what to order, just look at your brewing apparatus and select!
Home Blend Coffee Roasters
For those of you who like the strong, bold south Indian flavour from Mysore coffee blends, try Home Blend Coffee Roasters. Apart from being able to choose the roast (light, medium, dark), you can also choose from 15 types of grind sizes (including whole bean) of which the Moka Pot is one. The best part is that Mysore Nuggets Extra Bold Ground Coffee’s flavour is mild enough to have black too.
Ainmane Coffee
Working directly with the local coffee estates in and around Coorg, the Coorg based brand ethically and responsibly sources civet coffee too! But if the animal’s waste is not your treasure, then feel free to order any of their other speciality blends, that includes organic, and single origin options too. While they don’t have a Moka Pot grind option on their website, choose the “filter” option (South Indian coffee filters), as it’s close enough. We’re loving the light roast, Hardoor Estate blend with hints of coriander and lime zest.
Black Baza Coffee
A brand whose coffee is hundred percent traceable, Black Baza believes in microlots of uniquely curated coffee blends. Should you want to subscribe to one of their regular (but equally unique) blends, we recommend the Black Baza blend itself. Pairing “smashingly with chocolate”, the fermented Robusta has an earthy, spicy, smokey flavour with notes of pepper. Ground to order, enjoy it brewed in a Moka Pot or regular south Indian filter.
