What Makes It Awesome

When it was an impossible wish to go boating in Thekkady {due to the overly crowded counters for obtaining boat tickets} with my family, I couldn't decide what to do, but the thought of visiting vineyards was coruscating. Finally, the suggestion of a friend who had been to Cumbum was received by the entire family and we set off to the plain lands of Tamil Nadu.

What did I like most in Cumbum? In fact, I loved the journey from Thekkady to Cumbum through the looping road that passes along the Periyar Tiger Reserve and then on the farmlands of Gudalur and Cumbum or Kambam. Not just the journey, the vineyards at Cumbum make your 23km of extended trip thrilling and mesmerizing.

What Could Be Better?

When I started my journey to Cumbum from Thekkady, it was around 10:30am. When we reached the plains of Cumbum, it was already noon and the sun was smouldering. If you are travelling with kids, I would suggest you start the trip either early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

What's My Pro Tip?

Buy fresh grapes, but do not miss out the grape juices and wine bottles. Plan the day in a way that you can cover Thekkady, Cumbum, Theni, and Kodaikkanal.

Anything Else?

The beautiful aerial view of Gugalur from a high elevation can be relished from several viewpoints on your way from Kumily.
